How to Find the Right Job

If you are currently in a job or are looking for a job, don’t you continually ask yourself if the job you are in or the job you are looking for the right job for you? Each one of us does that because we all want to be in the right job to enjoy our lives well. Here, the question is how to find the right job. If you are in a job that you hate, chances are that you are perpetually unhappy and experience remorse for being stuck in a job that does not give you happiness even if it gives you loads of money. Also, your productivity will be at an optimum level only if you are in the right job that you look forward to doing each morning. Those of us who hate our jobs either quit, if possible, or endure it for unavoidable reasons.

However, if you are looking for jobs in India then you have the luxury to decide which job to take up from various fields like jobs in IT software, oil industry, telecom, hospitality etc. Although there is no guarantee that after putting in all the efforts, you will definitely find the right job for yourself but that should not stop you from ensuring a focused approach to get the right job. Firstly, one needs to introspect as to why one wants that job. Is it just because someone else that you know is doing that job and enjoying it? That should be no reason for you to opt for that job too. The life, situation and the capabilities of some other person are different than yours and hence his/her criteria of happiness are also different from yours. So, instead of aping, you should try to look within you to find out what is it that pleases you and that you would want to do.

One can be happy in one’s job only when the level of engagement with the job is high. Job engagement cannot be forced on you, it has to come from within. You will feel engaged with the job only when you love it and enjoy doing it. That is the only thing that gives an employee fulfillment and satisfaction. How one can feel engaged in a job is a complex subject. There are various factors that go into ensuring that. Whether you feel intellectually and emotionally connected to a job or not, whether your work is being properly valued and rewarded by your employer or not, whether your colleagues at the workplace give you the right atmosphere to work in or not, whether you receive the right compensation, perks and benefits with the job or not are some of the various benchmarks that ensure whether you are happy at your job or not.

Do a comprehensive test of your skills and competencies. Then, identify the kind of career that you can best match to those capabilities. Once that exercise is done, half your work is over. Believe me, it is the biggest task. People flounder for years in identifying what they really want to do. So, once you have identified that, the major work is done. Based on this analysis, you can apply for jobs in that field and that position. If you have been realistic in making your career choice, you can be sure that you are just one step away from finding the right job that will give you happiness.

The right job will be a combination of most, if not all, of the above-mentioned points. One who is fortunate enough to find a job that offers these can safely say that he is happy in his job. In fact, he would not even need to say it, it would be reflected in all else that he does and the way he lives. For this, you need to find the right workplace that will give you the right opportunities and the environment to succeed in your career goal.

Of course, you will get the real picture of a workplace and a job only when you are into it but before joining, there are a certain things that you can do and a certain questions that you can ask your employer to gauge if the job that you are applying for is the right job or not. Firstly, you must clearly ask about the details of your role. The tasks, objectives, challenges, responsibilities that the job entails should be clear to you before deciding to take on that job. Then you must know the expectations that will be set with you when you take up that particular job. Also, find out how the position is viewed in the department and the organization. This is important to know for you to be satisfied with the job. Your work will be rewarded and recognized only if it is considered important within the company. If the compensation and the perks offered suit your expectations, you need to find out whether the goals and the values of the organization match your goals too. If it does match, then you are probably on the brink of finding the right job. Just take it up and enjoy your job and life like a privileged few.
