This book could have been a pamphlet of about 5-10 pages instead of a book, and it should have been given free of charge. Although there are many very positive reviews on this book, this book doesn’t tell you what you need to do to get a raise, but leaves you, the reader, to decide what steps you could take that might lead to a raise (or might lead to you getting terminated), with each having a different positive or negative result. This was just another attempt by a no-name author to try and make a buck off of the general public. What a waste of $13.

Before you eagerly take the advice of this “full proof” method to make $1000 a minute, take the advice with a few grains of salt. The most competitive positions at the top companies (ie. Finance) will not be happy when you employ the tactic of trying to fudge your salary, especially if you do not have experience in the industry. Most likely, the competition for these positions is so fierce that anyone demanding over their typically preset ceiling will be shown the door and another eager and qualified candidate who is more forthright about salary to be offered the position. Be careful of completely losing your chances when you keep your salary range from the employer. What the author doesn’t tell you is the risk of the person across the desk showing you the door when they sense that you are not in their price range. Speaking from experience and having read the book, this is a real possibility. This book can cost you a lot more than $1000, out of your own potential income.

I attended a seminar by the author back in 1997. The book was included in the price of the seminar. I gave it a try it made my negotiations many times. Every time I’ve used this book I increased my base at least by 20%, plus bonus increase and variety of perks. I agree with one “negative” reviewer that this book can be reduced to, in my view, 3 pages. However to each these three pages will be “his/her own”. It worked for me so well that I recommend it to all my friends along with Richard Betty’s 5 Minute Interview. these two books is all a person need to increase chances of getting a job and compensation to a max.

My hat goes off to Jack Chapman because he has enabled countless people to earn more money for just a few seconds of doing what he advises. Jack has done a masterful job of telling all job seekers, or even those who are discussing their current salary with an existing employer, how to easily increase their income in a way that is subtle, yet quite effective. A must read for anyone who is negotiating pricing or salary!
